Directed by Luc Van Haver & Xavier Reyé, Quand C’est, the haunting seventh and final single from Racine Carrée, unfolds like a long, almost seductive dance against an all-too-real adversary. Released in September 2015, nearly two years after the album’s debut, this chilling work is brought to life through the solo choreography of Marion Motin and striking 3D animations by Benuts.
A dance with mortality

The video opens with a shadow play scene in the abandoned La Jeusette Theatre in Seraing, where Stromae stands alone, confronting a monstrous embodiment of cancer. Filmed in a single, nightmarish sequence, his captivating dance becomes a battle of seduction and survival as the two figures both threaten and captivate each other, locked in a struggle that ends in death. This haunting choreography is enhanced by an inventive use of a rope and pulley system, allowing Stromae to appear suspended and ensnared, captured in the creature’s looming grip—an illusion that is meticulously removed in post-production and replaced with the spider’s deadly claw.
Receiving multiple accolades, from Best Video at the D6Bels Music Awards, Red Bull Elektropedia Awards, and Music Industry Awards to Best Visual Effects at the Berlin Music Video Awards, Quand C’est was more than a final single; it became a striking, fearless exploration of illness and the fragile line between resistance and surrender.
