What followed was an unfiltered, raw performance of the song, as Stromae, seated at the lectern in the heart of the news broadcast, transformed the news program into a live art experience. This wasn’t just a song—it was a statement, a performance, and a conversation starter all in one. Within hours, the performance became a viral sensation. The clip racked up 10.5 million views on YouTube, and 4 million views in less than three days, making it the #1 trending video in France.

The performance sparked a national conversation about mental health, depression, and the importance of asking for help. It was a carefully orchestrated piece of media art, in collaboration with TF1’s editorial team, capturing the essence of Stromae’s unique blend of art, music, and activism. The result? A moment that resonated deeply with viewers on a personal level, triggering a wave of emotional responses and placing Stromae in Twitter trends for more than 48 hours. L’Enfer video accumulated over 67 million views, while the song itself surpassed 380 million streams.

But the impact of L’Enfer didn’t end there. The performance earned Stromae significant recognition, including a Grand Prix at the Creative Belgium Awards in the ‘media, stunts, and live advertising’ category, and a Gold award in the ‘PR’ category. Stromae’s audacious blending of entertainment and social message was publicly praised, even by the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who thanked the artist for highlighting the crucial topic of suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
